Now this is a date for the forward planners. The Sky Garden in the City is one way to get a glorious view of London without having to pay sky-high prices – it’s free to enter! You just have to book in advance (at least two weeks).
During your visit you’re whisked to the top of 20 Fenchurch Street to an expansive space that houses a bar, a cafe, a restaurant and a viewing terrace and of course a landscaped garden.
You can walk around the garden and get a 360 view of the city, and stop to get a drink or bite to eat after.
I know what you’re thinking, £15 for a cocktail right, a la Shard? No, the prices are reasonable. The price of a beer or cider costs around £5 – the same as your local pub.
We went at night-time when the Big Smoke is at its most magical but sunset is another option to dazzle your date. You have to book in for a specific time slot but are free to stay as long as you want after.
Or, you can try walking in during specific time periods but they don’t always guarantee entry.
Date factor: Cheap date, Special date, Mates date
Price: Free entry, £5 for a drink
Getting there: 5 minute walk from Monument or Bank tube
