Let Them Eat Cake

Golden profiteroles, chorizo sausage rolls… This is an afternoon tea with a bit of a twist.

I love the concept of afternoon tea, but I have to say that traditional afternoon tea can sometimes be bland (who the eff invented cucumber sandwiches?) and a bit overpriced (or in the case of The Ritz’s £70 high tea, exorbitant).

Ham Yard Hotel is a quirky boutique hotel tucked away just steps from Piccadilly Circus. I didn’t even know it was there for the first 6 months of its existence. As soon as you step into the lobby, you can help being wowed by the very cool interior design – I definitely recommend having a post-meal nose around.

But back to the afternoon tea. As mentioned above, each element of their offering is just a bit different, and oh so tasty. There’s a good balance of sweet and savoury included, and additional items are available for a small price, but trust me when I say that the standard afternoon tea will fill you up very nicely. In fact, if you’re not very hungry you could just share one serving between two and order a couple of additional extras (the staff aren’t precious about doing this).

Try to request a table in the conservatory when booking as the space is just that little bit more romantic and perfect for an afternoon date.
