Secret Afternoon Tea

Big shout out to the people who take real risks and follow their dreams. The people who we admire from afar and who see their goal right through to the end. Nadia, of My Secret Tea Room, is one such person.

I first met Nadia when she was focusing on her catering business and was a busy bee – making cakes for corporates, throwing afternoon teas for hen parties and baby showers, giving talks on etiquette… Did you know you’re supposed to put your napkin on your lap as soon as you sit down at the table?! (Not when your first course arrives!) I didn’t!

I immediately liked Nadia, not only because she is vivacious and so passionate about her business, but she always carries around an emergency bar of Green & Black’s chocolate in her handbag. My kind of girl!

Now Nadia has fulfilled her dream of setting up her own secret tea room and it really is hard to find… But it’s too good not to share.

Located in Kensal Rise, My Secret Tea Room is a warm and welcoming little gem. You feel Nadia’s love for baking and hosting as soon as you walk in through the door.

As it was a particularly hot July day, we sat outside in the patio and had freshly-made juices with our afternoon tea, but Nadia has a wide range of loose leaf teas that I am definitely going back for.

We started with sandwiches of our choice, beautifully presented on vintage crockery. You can pick from the classics like ham and wholegrain mustard or smoked salmon and garlic mayo. Nadia can change the fillings depending on your likes/dislikes AND give you a second round.

Next up were the scones with clotted cream and jam. Remember it’s jam first then the cream, unless you’re in Devon. Good tip!

For the extra “sweet bit” of the tea, we went inside to ice our own cupcakes. Nadia will show you the best way to ice (mine was better than my date’s as it “had more volume”) and then leave you to decorate with chocolate chips, sprinkles, gold glitter etc.

If you’re feeling lazy, you can always have one of the pre-iced cupcakes or pick from the display of cakes.

Afternoon tea is £19pp, an absolute steal in London. And did I mention it’s replenishable?! Rounds and rounds of sandwiches and tea!

Nadia’s adventure has only just started, but there are plenty of activities in the making. Like cupcake decorating classes, children’s parties and you can also hire the tea room for a private event.

Well done Nadia. I salute you!
